Summer Circuit Calendar

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

Summertime is coming and there are some big events coming up. One of the biggest gay events will be in Orlando for Gay Days. The GayDays.com website recently announced that Deborah Cox will be headlining huge concert events including Amber. The circuit events can be found on the One Mighty Weekend website. Summer starts out hot with the Beach Ball party and the Phouse in Orlando.

May 2007

There are also other Circuit parties you should start booking now. Memorial Day weekend brings you two parties in Florida and Texas. Trying to decide between these two will be hard as we outlined here.

  • Hot & Dry Weekend - Montreal, Canada. This is the 2nd largest circuit event in Montreal held the weekend before Memorial Day weekend on May 17-21.
  • College gets out around mid-May for most universities and one way to bring in the freedom is to attend Long Beach Pride. This California circuit party will be held in Long Beach off the Queen Mary I during the pride event dates of May 18-20.
  • Beach Parties Galore

June Pride Parties

It seems most cities seem to have their pride the same weekend near the end of June. There will be Pride Parties in Houston, Oklahoma City, New York, San Francisco, and more.

  • Oklahoma City – Angles Nightclub – huge after parade event starting around 6pm to 2am. The club is packed continuously and free admission. No expensive circuit prices.
  • San Diego – features a Zoo party at the San Diego Zoo. DJ Susan Morabito spinning at the Harbor Cruise.
  • Capital Pride Weekend in Washington D.C. June 8 – 10th features the Cherry 2007 circuit party.
  • EuroPride – held in Madrid, Spain June 22-July 1. Details at Europride2007.com – too much flash on this site to tell anything from the events though.

July 4th Freedom Parties

  • David Flower’s Summer Camp featuring DJ’s Abel, Brett Henrichsen, David Knapp, Manny Lehman, Mike Cruz, and Tony Moran. Gay Provincetown’s reining Fourth of July celebration. More information on CircuitTicket.com for this P-town event.
  • Station 4 in Dallas – open Tuesday, July 3rd and Wednesday, July 4th. One of the biggest nights of the year for the enormous club in Dallas.

One party I did not get to cover this year was Blue Ball in Philadelphia. It is one I keep hearing about and is a huge event coming up May 4th in just a few weeks.

If you are a fan of Queer as Folk and attended the Babylon parties you will be happy that they are back (but not the show). Enterbabylon.com has the circuit events posted sponsored by Midori. DJ Tony Moran will be headlining most of the dates. A few of the dates include:

  • May 4 – Splash in NYC
  • May 25- Club Hot in Pittsburgh
  • May 26 – Tracks in Denver, CO
  • July 3 – Karma Nightclub in Minneapolis
  • July 7 – Las Vegas – Krave
  • July 13 – Station 4 Dallas, TX
  • July 14 – Club Oz in the French Quarters of New Orleans
  • July 20 – Montage in San Diego (one of the nations top circuit clubs)

Summer will also include hot pool parties with boys showing off their new sexy tight swimwear, shirtless boys, and long lines at the bar. You have to love summertime and all the fun it brings.

Boys Gone Wild

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

Let’s get naked. Oh, I guess we shouldn’t do that in the club. No, we are not speaking of our buddies on the amateur site but a hoedown in the middle of the U.S. at a fabulous club.

One of my smaller city clubs is Angles in Oklahoma City. It was voted best club for 10 years in a row for the entire OKC metroplex. Yes, that is the best club not just gay club in the area. It was a club with good music and a fun stage to dance on where you could bring your friends out and have a good time.

Angles plans on having a party once a month and this month it will be the Boys Gone Wild party. We were originally scheduled to attend the Dallas Purple Party but after finding out it was $60-$70 we thought Angles might be more fun. We will pile up the car and head to Oklahoma City this weekend for this themed event.

The Angles website also comments there will be Dancer Cams setup that you can be a star on! I guess we will find out what that is once we get there. One of the countries top dance schools is close by at OCU. I am sure there will also be some OU and UCO guys out. Admission into Angles is free so there is no cover charge to worry about.

The Wreck room afterhours club will have an afterparty for the Boys Gone Wild event going on until 4am until the main club closes next door. There will also be a Miss Wreck Room contest (drag queen finals) going on Friday, April 27 at the Wreck Room.

Details: Angles Center, Saturday, April 28th located at 2117 NW 39TH ST. You may also check out their official website at anglesclub.com.

The Boys Went Wild

I would like to say that last weekend was amazing.  The party at Angles in Oklahoma City was out of control and packed with fabulous people.  I ran into Harold the Diva from Hard News Online, an GLBT Oklahoma City online news site.  I also ran into Mike Strange who was DJ at Angles and the Park for several years now.  I was a little surprised the Wreck Room was kind of dead after the drag shows.  I am thinking it should be free for people over 21 if they want more business.  Although, there was a hate crime that happened in Oklahoma City on the strip during our stay.  I was sad to hear about that.  I was also sad I did not get to see Floyd who does the Floyd’s Newsletter and his myspace.com/itzfloyd bulletions.  I think Floyd was hiding from me because we kept missing each other!

The music at Angles was fabulous as it always was when DJ Mike Strange played.  I even heard a few new songs I have not heard on radio or in a club yet.   No surprises there he has always been great at what he does.

Young, gay and in London

Wednesday, April 18th, 2007

Not that many years ago I was in London’s West End, the heart of the capital city and I wanted to visit a gay bar. There were only three then. But now? Well, now there are more bars and clubs, coffee houses and restaurants than ever before and you could probably visit a different one every day of the year and still not see them all. Add to this the number of places that are outside of the West End and you’ll find London a great destination for a gay holiday.

The first thing to do when you hit London is pick up a copy of Timeout (timeout.com) . This is a listings magazine that will give you the name, address and details of every bar (gay and straight) and venue in town. You can also check out theatres, restaurants, events, festivals, museums… you name it, they will have it listed. For more specific gay information then pick up a copy of one of the free magazines that you will find in any gay venue; QX is a good free one to look out for. Once you’ve done that head for Leicester Square (pronounced Lester Square) or Piccadilly and start your investigations in the Old Compton Street area: the heart of London’s queer city.

The Gay London on-line directory currently lists 34 gay bars in Central London alone. 79CXR on Charing Cross Road really gets going in the evenings and you’ll find a mixed crowd here on its two floors. It’s a long bar with some recesses at the back where you can pose, wait or generally cruise. The ones to look out for when you want to find a younger set would be Bar Code in Archer Street or The Village Soho at the end of Old Compton Street. Along the way you could stop off for some shopping at Clone Zone or call in for coffee at the trendy Kudos Café or the equally trendy coffee house, The Box. All of these places get busy in the evening and most are open all day. Watch out for the London prices though as you won’t find drinks very cheep. Your best value is to try somewhere like Comptons, which is more of a pub than a bar and which has pump ale and lager as well as the over priced bottles of designer beer. Comptons is one of the older bars and has a mixed crowd. As does Brief Encounter which, when I was last there, was rocking and you were guaranteed a pick up if you cruised hard enough.

There are 16 gay clubs in the centre of town too. G.A.Y. at the Astoria is probably the most popular with guest appearances and live music as well as late night dancing and non-stop cruising. This is the number one place for the 18 – 25 crowd on a Friday and Saturday night. There is also the world famous Heaven, under the arches at Charing Cross railway station. This has been running for more years than I care to remember (as some remember it from as far back as the early 1980’s) and is one of THE places to be seen.  Again, it’s not going to be cheep but most of the clubs in London offer rates for Students, so if you have a student I.D. card, don’t forget to take it.

Outside of the city centre but only a short underground or bus ride away, you’ll find loads of other bars and clubs. These tend not to be as pretentious, the bois don’t pose as much and the staff tend to be more friendly. If you want to rip your shirt off, show off your pecs and get off on music then try Trade at Turnmills in Clerkenwell Street. Benjy’s on Mile End Road (Sundays) is packed with hunky and fit East End lads and down at Kings Cross, Central Station has something different on every night. The student folk of the north and east areas tend to hang out at The Duke of Wellington and other Islington area bars and if you want cabaret, cruising and everything in between the good old Black Cap in Camden is the place for you.

These are just some of the better places to visit on your trip to London, if I were you I’d check out the links below, pick up a copy of QX for addresses and listings and prepare yourself for a rave. If it’s happening, it’s happening in the gay scene in London!

Gay Sex Clubs

Wednesday, April 18th, 2007

When I lived in London I knew of a place, over in the west of the city, where guys could go and spend the entire evening naked. If you wanted a bit of ‘relief’ with another drinking buddy you could go into one of the ‘rest rooms’ available. That, to me, sounded like a sex club. So when I came to write this and did some on-line research, my eyes were opened by the variety of places around these days that go under the title ‘sex club’. It sounds like the kind of thing you join and go to every Wednesday night, like an amateur dramatics group, but these days things are much more sophisticated.

For example you have your J/O clubs, that’s Jack Off – where guys (and sometimes girls and bi-folk on special nights) go for a good old fashioned circle jerk. Turn up, strip off, chat and then when the time is right get down to the J/O part of the evening. Alternatively you can opt for something far more traditional and old fashioned and visit a bathhouse, or sauna as they are also called. Not every sauna on the planet is a gay orientated one so it’s best to check out the details before you go but searching on-line or asking in your local gay bars will often result in the information you need. You may not think of a sauna as being a club but there are those that have regular customers who know what they want and know where to go to find it. Turn up, pay up, get your towel and start to explore. In the more wild ones you’ll find uninhibited sex happening just about everywhere though most will have those ‘rest rooms’ if you want some privacy. A good sauna should also have free condoms and lube on offer and remember to always play safe. Promiscuous folk as well as first timers go to sex clubs and you should always be aware of the risk of infections, so cover it up before you put it in, or allow it in! parties where loads of sexy bois turn up, have a drink and then shag everything that moves or does not move. Great stuff to watch but how do you actually go about throwing one of these events?

I have to admit that I never have, but I did speak to some people I know who have organized such an event and I have managed to put together some background on how these guys do it. I also get tons of emails requesting pics for these type of parties so I admit it does spark some interest.

First of all you need to know what you are doing; you need to now the law both national and local as it pertains to where you are. This is particularly important if you are going to film the event and put it on a website. Secondly you need money as this is going to cost you a fair amount: the venue (and you need a gay-orgy friendly one) with charge, the bar will cost you, if you are filming then you have the crew and the cast to consider and then there is the publicity.

Publicity: how do you find 200 gay guys who are willing to have an orgy and be filmed? Well, advertising in local colleges works surprisingly well and you’d be amazed at how many straight guys turn up too. The local press woks the same – plus you have the internet and maybe your own website too.

So, you have the film crew, the venue and the whole thing is set up what next? Well sadly these things don’t happen spontaneously though they may appear to on the websites that feature them. If you are making a porn video in the USA (and this rule should apply to any country really – to protect yourself) you need to get the actors to do two things: One, they must prove their age and you must make copies of it in case anyone questions the legality of your models, (they must be over 18). Secondly you must get them to sign the legal disclaimer stating their age and your right to use them and their filmed/photographed material publicly since they will be nude.

So, all that preparation done and you are ready to roll. Now you just have to hope that your guys turn up, lose their inhibitions and have a wild time. There is some more backstage work still to be done. Some guys need persuading, others simply need to be introduced to each other, you should keep an eye out for illegal drugs as you don’t want that kind of thing filmed on your website and you should make a general introduction to the guys before the party starts: put them at their ease. After that, I am told, things usually take care of themselves and the kind of guys willing to do a wild gay college party won’t have any trouble in getting naked and wild when the time comes.

If you want any inspiration on how these things turn out here are a few sites to view:

Guysgocrazy is my favorite and features all male orgies in high quality filming from three cameras per party.

Many bars and music clubs have themed nights. You may not think of these as being ‘clubs’ as such but in a way they are. If you have a thing for a particular fetish you will probably find a disco or night club that has a fetish themed night. Here you’ll meet up with guys into the same kinds of things as yourself and, if the themed night is a regular occurrence, with a little social networking you’ll soon find a new circle of friends sharing a similar interest. And that’s exactly what a club is, isn’t it?

So, you may be asking, if sex clubs are places for guys to have sex in public what’s the difference between that and a cruising area or even a brothel? Well for a start at a sex club you don’t pay your partner for the sex. Everyone is there for the same thing and you shouldn’t hand over any cash apart from perhaps a door entry and a bar bill. Cruising areas are outside places where guys go for anonymous sex but these can often present dangers; being caught or being ripped off for example, sex clubs are safer in his respect. It’s worth noting too that some well run and organized sex clubs exist and operate purely as a club for sex (as opposed to being a bar, bathhouse or night club). These may have membership fees, newsletter and will be the kind of club that is set up purely for the fun of the sex, rather than as a commercial venture.

But wherever you go to find your sex, always remember to play rough! Below are some useful links, or simply run and on-line search with the phrase ‘gay sex clubs’ and away you go.

Gay Nude Beaches

Wednesday, April 18th, 2007

Summer is a coming in (if you’re in the northern hemisphere at any rate) and my mind is turning to hot days by the sea. And what could be better than finding a beach where you can do the full Monty and strip everything off? Doing a quick search for Gay Nude Beaches (USA) brought up over one million hits so the problem is really where to start?

Florida seemed like as good a starting point as any and the news here is that with over 12,000 miles of coastline, nude and clothing optional beaches are really taking off. The two that came up most frequently were: Haulover Beach, in the North Miami Beach area. It has many facilities including lifeguards (so something to ogle at apart from naked guys) and parking that is available from sunrise to sunset. Or there is Playalinda Beach which has fewer facilities but is extremely popular. A word of warning: some states have different laws so check out where you are before you strip off! If you’re further north you might be surprised to learn that there are at least five nudist beaches in New York. Cherry Grove in Suffolk County is actually one of the gay resort communities on Fire Island, which you’ve probably heard of, and is more than just a gay nudist beach. Here they have ‘awards night’ and a July 4th gay barbecue and it is one of the more popular gay destinations in the USA.

Leaving the United States and jetting off around the world towards Europe and you are spoiled for choice when it comes to stripping off. Mykonos, one of those idyllic Greek islands, has long been famed for its gay night life and there are plenty of go-naked places to be found. Which is kind of strange as Greece only has a very few registered and official nudist beaches. But as long as you are discrete and don’t offend anyone then most people turn a blind eye, particularly on Mykonos which is still something of a gay party island, though it can be expensive. Croatia, apparently, has a long tradition of nudist beaches and, though not necessarily gay ones, there are some very popular places along the Dalmatian coast. The same goes for the south of France where, particularly on the smaller beaches, most everyone strips off and those who don’t do not seem to care. A similar attitude is held in Spain and Portugal, in fact Europe seems to be a great destination for anyone wanting to get bare by the sea. In Spain, you have famous nude beaches such as Sitges and Maspalomas (it’s the Gran Canaria gay beach).

But what about England? It rains there all the time doesn’t it? Well, no, not all the time and if you want a good gay experience then pop down to Brighton and walk along the shingle shore towards the Marina. Here you’ll find a bank of shingle between the road and the sea and over it you’ll find the nudist beach. This one was officially opened by The Queen Mother (though she didn’t strip for the ceremony) and is a very popular destination for gay sunbathers and cruisers. Just behind the beach is the area known as ‘the bushes’ where, particularly after dark, gay guys go to cruise. Contrary to popular thought, the Brits aren’t all prudes and most locals know what goes on here. Bring a flask of something to keep you warm and… enjoy!

Of course these are only a few destinations and there are hundreds more out there. One of the best sites I found was gayoutdoors.org and if you look there you will find masses of links and a search facility that will enable you to look up what’s good, nude and gay near you. This sites features all kinds of other outdoor activities for gay guys (and girls) and has some pretty hot boys adorning its many pages. So strip off your hot clothes and dive in boys!

Madonna Party to Rock Houston Nightlife

Thursday, April 5th, 2007

I have been feeling under the weather lately and have missed many good parties lately. I think my allergies this year are just killing me. I missed out on the Winter Music Conference that I keep missing every year which features DJ’s such as Sasha and Digweed. There are some parties coming up this Spring that cannot be missed.

I would do away without my Sirius radio addiction for a day to attend one of the hottest parties at South Beach in Houston. I would allow myself loose control on one of the biggest dancefloors in Texas with better music than you will find in NYC, LA, or Miami that night.

Last year the Madonna party called MadonnaRama was out of control thanks to a local radio station catching on to the popular event. It was definitely a mixed but happy, beautiful crowd who all showed up for great music. Yes, great music and I do not say that very much but how can you resist… its Madonna all night. The queen of the night and the queen of pop.

I brought a group of friends with me last year to the Madonna party at Southbeach Nightclub and they were skeptical of listening to Madonna all night. I said you will not realize how different each song is and how amazing this DJ from the former Nation in D.C. knows how to mix. You will also realize Madonna has so many hot, sexy dance songs that do not get played on local radio stations (instead you always hear the jigga-bo-nation on the top 40 stations).

They found themselves dancing harder than I had seen in months to songs “Like a Prayer,” “Vogue,” and this year you can count on hearing the newly remixed “Erotica.” It will be a hot, young crowd as always and DJ Ed Bailey and as you can imagine there will be Madonna impersonators bringing high energy to the crowd.

Additional Houston Events:

Southbeach nightclub in Houston also plans a great event this Friday night called Jungle. If you are in the Houston area we advise you to stop by “Jungle 15” and party with the boys to give back to HIV/Aids services starting Friday night and Sunday at our favorite club in Houston and then Saturday night they are at Warehouse Live for the main event. This is a wonderful Easter Weekend circuit party that contributes proceeds to HIV service providers.

The Brighton Gay Scene

Thursday, April 5th, 2007

Brighton is an historic seaside town on the southern coast of England. It is famous for its two piers, the West pier which is now more or less destroyed by time and the elements and the recently renamed Brighton pier which is famous for its fairground attractions. Brighton is also famed for its Royal Pavilion, a fancy Palace built in the Regency style for King George IV in the early 19th century.

But there is so much more for the gay traveler to enjoy in Brighton than the usual tourist sites. Whether you fancy a night eating out, clubbing or simply cruising in the bars you’ll find a whole load of places to choose from as Brighton is now known as the ‘gay capital of Europe.’ O.k. so you might think that Amsterdam, London, Manchester or even Gran Canaria should deserve that title and you’d probably be right. But this article is about the ‘city by the sea’ so let’s have a quick tour around the better places to go in Brighton.

Which, by the way, is also a student town with two universities and several colleges, so there is plenty of young talent around.

Brighton bars seem to fall into two sets; the bar for the older guy and the bar for the younger set. For the younger crowd though go to Charles Street, on the seafront. It is a large bar that serves food and has a night club upstairs. You can call in for breakfast, read the papers, sit on the terrace or just meet your friends for drinks before a night out. It, like many of the Brighton bars, is friendly and welcoming. Next door you will find Kruze which also caters for the younger set with up to date music and swanky decor. If you’re more into the real student crowd then The Marlborough will appeal with its pool table, theatre and well priced food. You can also get real English ale here which makes a change from the standard lagers the other bars rely on. You’ll also find young and old alike enjoying cabaret and Karaoke at The Queens Arms and this traditional English Pub likes to have cute and sexy barmen behind the counter.

For a night of dancing and cruising then Revenge is your destination. This is Brighton’s biggest club, and its two dance floors and bars regularly attract a young and hip crowd. You’re guaranteed to have a wild night here and your eyes will be popping out of your head at the young guys dancing in their sexiest clothes long into the night. Once a month you can go to Wild Fruit, a party night event that has been running regularly since 1992 and one which attracts the cream of the boi crop. Check their website for when the next event will be. (See below). For a bit of everything in one place you can try Legends. This place has just been revamped and now contains a bar that has regular cabaret and the new Dance Venue downstairs. Upstairs is a hotel so you can even have a place to stay.

And if you want something a bit more steamy then The Amsterdam also has a hotel attached, a lively bar with a great terrace on the seafront and a busy sauna down in the basement. You’ll find a mixed age crowd here but everyone is friendly and you’ll be made to feel welcome.

That’s the good thing about Brighton: it’s small enough to keep a community, friendly feel and you can be anonymous or you can get yourself noticed. Most of the bars and clubs are within walking distance of each other and there’s even an open air cruising ground along at ‘the bushes’ by the Marina.
