Gay Pride 2009

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

June 2009 offers opportunities to attend Pride Fests and Parades across the country and around the world. These range from small community based gatherings to large and well publicized events drawing famous faces and performers.  Pride events typically span the month of June, depending upon the city.

Europride 2009 kicks off the Gay Pride festivities this year. Expect celebrations the weekend of May 30 to June 1st and the following weekend, June 5th through 7th. The Europride Parade takes place at 3:00 PM on June 6th. Live music, speakers, D.J.s and dancing are all planned for this year’s party.

Anyone in the South should consider making a road trip to Austin Pride on June 6th. An attendance of thousands is expected in Republic Park. Grrlz Will Be Boiz, Allie Rolison,  Show Me Tiger! and Holly Lorka will play this year’s Austin Pride. Slightly further North, Tulsa and Kansas City are also hosting smaller Pride celebrations on the 6th of June.

L.A. Pride takes place from June 12th to June 14th. The Dyke March kicks off the weekend and the day’s fun gives way to Erotic City each evening from 8PM to midnight. Look for eborah Cox, Expose, Terri Nunn & Berlin, and Blake Lewis to play at this year’s activities in Los Angeles.

Chicago celebrates gay pride through the month of June, culminating in a parade on June 28th.  The Chicago Pride Street Festival, also on the 28th, includes performers such as Martha Wash, Tiffany, the Windy City Choir, Frenchie Davis this year.  Other events over the course of the month include performances, ceremonies, sporting events and tastings.

New York City Pride takes place over a week in late June. The Rally (the first of the events, taking place June 20, 2009), PRIDEfest, The March, the Dance on the Pier, and Rapture on the River are all held in the West Village. The most notable of these is the March, NYC’s Pride Parade, held on Saturday, June 27.

The most famous commemoration of the Stonewall Riots, San Francisco Pride will be held the last weekend of June, the 27th and 28th. Headlining acts this year on the main stage include BoA, Solange Knowles and The Cliks. The parade will begin at 10:30 AM on June 28th.

Planning Ahead for 2010

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

You really have to plan ahead to get the best deals sometimes at least that’s how it used to be.  Maybe not so much anymore if you don’t mind flying coach you can get deals last minute for cheap.  Booking hotels is the biggest obstacle so you have to know months in advance if you want to book a party at say the White Party in Palm Springs or the Gay Ski Weeks.  Sometimes people do not understand you have to plan ahead for things and you can’t sit around until the last minute to go which is why we miss out on so many parties.  Of course not this far ahead but at least a month or so ahead. ..

I am always up for trying out new events and love to meet new people and see new and exciting things.  Some of the events are hard to make because they fall on a big weekend with tons of other things going on that are more close to home or just more convenient.  The hardest events to make are always the gay ski weeks and January and February events.  Why are these so hard to make?  There is so much going on during Spring Break and the week’s right before that.

WinterPRIDE (estimated near February 1-8)

The event that is the top of my list that I really want to attend in 2010 is the annual WinterPRIDE in Whistler, Canada.  The Whistler WinterPRIDE is one of the largest gay ski weeks worldwide and even emphasizes health and wellness something we can all use.  Of course, it still has all the naughtiness at nighttime we all need.  They have a Mr. Gay World Competition and a closing night party.  Canada also has 19 to drink laws so you don’t have the ridiculous 21 and up laws to deal with if you bring someone who is considered too young to drink in the United States.  The beauty and awe are just a few of the things I expect to see in the gorgeous mountains in Whistler.

San Francisco Pride

This is an event I will probably not make it to for years just because it falls on the same weekend as Houston pride and Columbus Pride.  I already am dying to see Houston pride because it’s a nighttime parade and that itself sounds exciting.  San Francisco may have one of the largest pride parades but Columbus really impressed me they way they have their Community festival next door to the pride which made it more exciting.  Especially exciting if you’re a lesbian there are lots of bare breasts scooting along the street.  I will make it to San Fran pride someday but do want to make sure they have a club big enough for more than 100 people if I do travel up California that far north.

Fire Island Pines

Just looking at the pictures from this event make me want to go to this Summer festival.

P-Town, MA

This is an island you ride a ferry to from Boston.  This I hear is a treasure of many gays and lesbians all in one spot.

White Party Palm Springs

They celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Jeffrey Sanker party this year and had a pool party with Nikki Harris and the Perry Twins with the headlining performer of Lady Gaga.  For Lady Gaga this was the second year she had performed and she is the crowned Pop Princess from Perez Hilton.  She took that award from Britney Spears who lip-syncs or mimes as Australians call it.  There is no lip-syncing going on when Lady Gaga performs.   They also had J-Lo (Jennifer Lopez) perform there a few years back.

I doubt Jeffrey Sanker can come up with something better than Lady Gaga for 2010 for their 21st anniversary but we will see.  To me… nothing is grander than Lady Gaga.  Well ok maybe Madonna.  If he gets Madonna I will make a bet right now to pay for me and 10 of my friends to go.  My problem with the white party is the fact they have nothing planned on Friday nights but a pool party in the daytime ran by Club Papi.  The clubs look too small or leather clubs (not the ones im used to) to deal with on a Friday night.  The Wyndham makes you book two night minimum and the other host hotel the Hotel Zoso sells out fast.  Another gripe about the Wyndham is their sales people leave at a ridiculous 3:30pm – who gets off work that early!

Mardi Gras Sydney, Australia

Some call it the largest gay party in the world.  Australia is one of the most conservative countries when it comes to online porn but maybe they are more open minded when it comes to this party.  Over half a million people attend for three weeks of non-stop partying.    This party goes on around February 14 to March 7th.  Somehow the timing of this interferes with just about everything including tax preparation for me every year.  I would love to go sometime though if I can find someone who wants to fly for 20 hours on the plane and spend at least a week over in Aussie land.  I know there will be some babes over there to check out.  The weather is supposed to be Summer there during this time so it’s the perfect time to get out of the US and warm up a bit.

GLBT Expo

I would love to attend a GLBT Expo this year or next year.  I think it would be great to see the mainstream gay things in the works and meet the advertisers and event sponsors.  You know none of these big events are normally possible without Red Bull, Bacardi, Absolut, or someone to sponsor these big gatherings.  A few years back I attended the Nightclub Convention in Las Vegas and had such a good time going around to the booths (and trying the next new drink flavors).  The annual AVN Expo is something to check out.  These can all be pricey but worth it in the learning experience.

Chicago Northalsted Marketdays

This is the event in the BoysTown area of Chicago that is not to be missed.  It is high time that we made this event and hope to see it for ourselves in 2010.  Chicago is an incredible city to be a part of during the warmer months of course.  Marketdays is a celebration of a variety of things with fair like booths set up to enjoy and browse.  Market Days is located between N. Halsted street, between Belmont and Addison | Chicago from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m normally the first weekend in August.    BeBe Zahara Benet and Jade performed Saturday & Sunday, August 1-2, 2009 which you missed if you were not there.

London, London, London

I want to go to London more.  I am saving my frequent flyer miles just for the first class or upgrades to London.  G-A-Y is where I will be and could almost live there.  I love big things, especially big clubs.  I just can’t stand cold weather and unless there is a reason for me to be in the cold like learning to ski I think this might be a better place to see when its Spring or Summer.

Other annual events I have missed and want to attend are EuroPride, LA Pride, and Black & Blue Montreal.  Believe it or not I had to miss another one of my favorite parties this year in Pensacola, FL and the hot club Emerald City.  I sure did not like missing Pensacola Beach but accidents happen.

Party like it’s 2009

Most important of all… What about the last day of 2009?  New Years this year could be the biggest event in a decade since 1999.  You might should start booking your New Years Eve party now- airfare, hotel, and seeing what parties are out there.  We have not heard of any yet but I am sure there will be tons of huge events thrown to bring in the next decade.

Lily Allen Says F* You!

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

I am just loving this new song form Lily Allen.  Actually her entire CD is packed full of goodness.  Her song about waking up in Vegas she sung on American idol.  She fully supported Adam Lambert as the winner of the popular show.  Maybe Adam Lambert and Lily Allen will be touring together next year after he has to fulfill the boring American idol concert contract. Lame lame lame.

This video is cool because some French youth got together singing and giving the bird to those haters.  Something Madonna started years ago giving the finger to the haters.  I bet Lily Allen will be high on the charts all Summer long!

Why is it that I cannot seem to add Lily Allen to Myspace. I guess she only wants her close friends on there but there is hundreds of thousands of them. I tried to add her as a friend and it said I had to enter her last name or her email. I suppose Allen is not her last name because it did not work. Kathy Griffin can you help me get on Lily’s D-List LOL.

Orlando Gay Days Venue Changes

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

Well the drama continues in Orlando as DJ’s Manny Lehman and others have stepped into other venues to go up against the One Mighty Weekend parties. I will say that this one is pretty easy to predict. I can tell you now who will be at what party.

1. Lydia Prim is spinning at the Typhoon Lagoon Party- she is a fabulous DJ. This is where everyone will be friday night. The tickets are $69 bucks and it gets you into wave pools and waterslides and a great DJ. I can predict now that no one is going to be at anything else. EnVibe wevibe or youvibe it ain’t gonna happen on Saturday night. Gay Day Reimagined is just not appealing to for a gay day party. Maybe for a off weekend when there isn’t the biggest water park event going on. Whats worse for One Mighty Weekend is that Gay Days who has the gaydays.com website is part of the Typhoon Lagoon “Lets Go Play”. I think all the other DJ’s and all that are great but who on earth would miss the water park part of Gay Days weekend.

(from the CircuitDog’s twitter) Request YOUR favorite song at THIS YEAR’S Typhoon Lagoon Party w/ DJ Lydia Prim. Send your request to PlayThisDJLydia@aol.com

2. Buena Vista palace – Still hoping people will be at this hotel like last year. So many are disappointed in the Johnny Chisholm franchise that its hard to tell. If so, the pool parties will be HOT and scandalous as always!

3. The P house- Two words: Deborah Cox . This is where it will be Saturday and Sunday night. We have Hard Rocks and HOB’s in every big city in the US. People want their big dancefloor, live performers, drinks, and good music, and maybe some foam.

4. Alyson in Wonderland Sunday - Brett Hendrichsen and Alyson Calagna are two amazing DJ’s but I am not so sure people will be done with all the circuit fighting and drama and be ready for cocktails at the Phouse. We are in Disney to see Disney stuff or MGM or Universal not sit inside Hard Rocks or Gaylord Convention Centers.  The Hard Rock is just boring to me.

5. Afterparty at Arabian Nights every night especially Sunday night!

This could be a situation where people will be scattered everywhere but they will end up at the places mentioned above in the end once they find the right party.  At least you know the Phouse and the pool parties at Buena Vista Palace will be best bets and most likely the more affordable bets.  Save your money for at least one afterparty at Arabian Nights or it could be an Ambien night.

There seems to be lots of negative things happening this year but I feel the Typhoon Lagoon party could turn out to be a fun party afterall.  The saddest thing missing from the weekend is the Thursday night party at Mannequin’s which Disney tore down to make room for more family friendly restaurants. Gag me now. So they took away our rotating dance floor for a restaurant.  Ok.. I will keep positive about this weekend and it will be fun!!

BTW what is up with that cheesy name of “Let’s Go Play” for the Typhoon Lagoon party.  Really?  It sounds like something the Parliament house should name their foam party.

Top 20 Dance Hit List April 2009

I feel like I say this every month that there is so much good music out there right now.  How ironic, I sound like a broken record. Fine I won’t say it this month but I am thinking it.  We have the re-mixes of old acts that have risen from the vinyl’s to digital such as Cher and Erasure.  This month the Perry twins also got accepted as Billboard reporters for the dance charts… that’s good news for us diva music fans.  April was an exciting month when it came to wicked events such as the White Party where Lady Gaga and a hot female dj stole the show along with the Perry Twins and Erasure’s Andy Bell!

  1. When Love Takes Over – Kelly Rowland mixed by David Guetta
  2. Love Game – Lady Gaga (Robots to Mars mix)
  3. Bad, Bad Boy – Perry Twins f. Niki Harris (DJ Escape & Dom Capello Club Mix)
  4. Spaceman  – The Killers (Tiesto)
  5. Beautiful U R – Deborah Cox (Yinon Yahel mix)
  6. Poker Face – Lady Gaga (Dirty Electro Mix)
  7. Always 2009 Remix – Erasure (Masterbeat exclusive)
  8. If You Seek Amy – Britney Spears (Flashlight Dance Remix)
  9. Boom Boom Remixed – Paul Lekakis (Boom Boom Boom let’s go back to my room so we can do it all night and you can make me feel right)  I remember a DJ once telling me this song was “too top 40” to play at the Wreck Room an afterhours club when they used to play a version on the radio back in the day.  Well its back biotches!
  10. Covergirl – RuPaul (Put the Bass in Your Walk) WORK IT!
  11. A Little Respect – Erasure Avantara Remix
  12. Love Sets You Free – Escape / Coluccio Club Mix
  13. Come Back To Me – Utada (Tony Moran) Also like the Seamus Haji mixes of the song
  14. Wrong – Depeche Mode (Alexander One Electromix)
  15. Boom – (Bimbo Jones Radio Edit)
  16. If U Leave – Musia Soulchild f. Mary J. Blige (Mig Vs. Rizzo Club Mix)
  17. Love Struck – (Tracy Young)
  18. Beautiful – Akon – (Tracy Young Monster Club Mix):  You realize it was Akon who helped discover Lady Gaga.  His entire album is amazing and is a must buy.
  19. My Life Would Suck Without You – Kelly Clarksen
  20. Day ‘N’ Nite  Kid Cudi  (Crookers Mix)
  21. Halo Beyonce
  22. Faxing Berlin – Deadmau5
  23. We Made You – Eminem: Even if you dislike Eminem you have to love this video and the beat is catchy.
  24. Don’t Trust Me (Shussh girl …. Do the Helen Keller and talk with your hips)
  25. Love is the Look – Kristine W: Word has it that Diva Kristine W has a new song coming out soon. We cannot wait to get our hands on that!

You might listen to KISS FM in your city or even listen to XM or Sirius Area or BPM or even the fierce Boys Town Live station online.  You might want to know that the Gay Internet Radio Live now has an I phone application you can listen to dance tunes and get the mixes from your iTunes or better yet click our Masterbeat link and buy the music!

Is it me or is the Jamie Foxx Featuring T-Pain song Blame it just not that great of a song.  I mean I expect something more from Jamie Foxx than that.  I thought he did a great job on American Idol the other night even though his advice got Matt Giraud kicked off of Idol.  Well maybe nothing could have saved Matt from Adam Lambert.  The Blame It song is just weak for Jamie Foxx’s talents though and the remixes just do not make good for club music.

As for hip hop music Flo Rida’s remake of a retro song Right Round is a fun song to dance to but did not quite make it in our top 20.  Soulja Boy Tell ‘em Featuring Sammie Kiss me Thru The Phone is also a great song for some hip hop grinding.  I could not stand Soulja Boy last year when every club including gay clubs played it continuously to no end but after seeing the new video I am starting to like him more.

The Rainbow Pilgrimage

Looking over the top 100 chart-toppers on the Billboard charts I noticed an advertisement that we talked about before on this blog from NYC trying to gain gay tourists.  I found it strange it was listed on The Billboard Hot 100 chart since that is a mainstream chart or are somehow know it is a gay person viewing their website.  There is no way they could know that so I am sure they are just throwing up this ad on a music site that mentions some gay favored artists I imagine.

Boys in Foam

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009

What exactly is a foam party? It really depends what club or event you are attending. It can be boys in underwear going in circles around in the foam like at the P-house during Gay Days or could be like the Insomnia afterhours in Dallas where you have guys and girls dancing their asses off to incredible dj’s submerged in foam. Either way you need to loose your shirt or you will never see it again and bring a Ziploc bag for your cell phone and other things that could get wet. The foam will make you wet inside and out.

I was scared to get into the foam the first time I did at an afterhours club. People told me it was a cess pool of diseases and that’s really far from the truth. Some people are really scared of their own shadows. Yeah if you walk into a public place such as Hurricane Harbor or the bath house and have an open sore you are kind of risking catching a bacterial infection but its overly exaggerated. I have been in quite a few foam parties and never caught anything and have been in some in my underwear..fun times!

The hottest foam parties I have been to have been at the Parliament House in Orlando where they have one out back of the resort near the beach area of the parking lot. I think if it was not such a worry to the sound and equipment you would see more foam parties. I am sure they have their way of keeping it from ruining things though besides your clothing which it mostly washes out of if you can find your clothes when you are done!

Upcoming Foam Parties:
Krave Nightclub in Las Vegas, NV – for gay pride they are having a foam party this Sunday, May 3rd with DJ Morningstar. Bring your swimsuit!

Parliament House Orlando, FL – All during gay days celebration there will be foam parties each night in the rear of the hotel. You might find some hot touchy feely going on and some male models in the big foam bubbles swimming with you. You might even move the foam around and see someone you know from your hometown (that’s what happened to me). It’s like a soap opera if you know what I mean.
