Good article, thanks! Being a native, I would add that the Love Parade didn't happen in Berlin in 2007 but in the Ruhr Basin in the west of Germany and might do so in the next year. Reason is that the city of Berlin and the party organizers couldn't agree on who should pay for cleaning up the trash from the streets and parks after the parade.
Regarding East Berlin: the wall came down in 1989 and the second biggest gay area in Berlin is actually in East Berlin: Prenzlauer Berg. It is true that in some areas of East Berlin you have to be aware of right-wing homophobes, but it is also true that in some areas of West Berlin (even in gay Schoeneberg) you have to be aware of homophob youths from Turkey and other countries.
If somebody needs a gay guide for Berlin in English with addresses and maps of most bars, clubs etc.: patroc.com/berlin/
Cheers, Michael
