We then cabbed it over to Town club for a retro night with a drag queen who was tired of standing out in the rain. He was showing us pics of him out of drag and we were quite impressed but we never saw him again inside the busy Town club. Town was great for the Saturday just as good as Friday. It was a special retro party with 70s 80s and 90s music mixes upstairs and downstairs.

Sunday night we took a town car provided by Ziegfeld Secret’s or ZS as it says on the building. The Gay area is located mostly near the 17th street near Dupont circle but Ziegfeld Secret’s is in the old part where Nation and Wet used to be near. It can take up to 20 min for that ride because it is a bit far from the Dupont circle. It may be a bit scary looking but once inside it is fun. The guys are totally nude and they feature a shower and a upstairs and downstairs of bare men. The only problem is its only good on Friday and Saturdays and maybe Military night and shirtless themed nights during the week. Sunday was pretty dead and only the upstairs was open with not even shower action so we busted out of there hoping to find a busy Sunday night place.

It turns out Washington DC does not have a Sunday night place at all. Now every city has its different rules, laws, and popular places for Sunday night but DC should just shut down on Sundays since it was entirely dead everywhere. In Atlanta they are forced to shut down at Midnight but it may be like DC in that not many go out that night. Cities like Dallas party hard on Sundays but are lame on Wednesdays and Thursdays. We even asked if there was a straight club to dance at on Sunday and no one seemed to know. Possibly on weekends like Columbus Day they may have a Sunday night event. The daytime is your best bet for Sunday Funday at places such as Duplex Cafe.

We are still not sure if they have a college night anywhere on Thursday nights. We read online the place they had it before closed down and did not hear of any mentions of a college night but we do know that Fridays are 18 and up at Town.

Overall DC has one of the best clubs in the Nation and in the Nation’s capital with so many professional gays, lobbyists, HRC officers, and leaders in the LGBT cause its certainly a great city to socialize and meet a possible husband. I would not want to pay taxes or live in DC though as if they were a state they would rank #1 in taxes.

The mainstream hotels in the Dupont area include the Marriott Courtyard, Residence Inn, and the Doubletree by Hilton. We stayed at the Doubletree by Hilton and got charged a $200 room clean fee I guess for the plant that fell on the floor… oops. Damn $200 for a plant that falls on the floor. They should be crediting my room for the non-working heater.

Donovan House, Palomar, The Dupont Hotel are some of the gay stays near Dupont circle in Washington DC. The Helix had the most fascinating entrance but we have yet to stay there.  These are nice that they are walking distance to places like Whole Food’s and JR’s.  You can even walk over to take pics of the Capital.

Can’t wait to visit DC and dance at Town again soon!

But what about other gay bars around the world? Out.com has a list of 60 and I started to look through these but, to be honest, I found the site a little on the slow side. So I went back to the list that had been suggested to me, and here are the rest, in no real order:

The Abbey in LA
The Los Angeles Times called this place ‘a gay bar with no shame’ which sounds fabulous to me, and it was voted ‘the best gay bar in the world’ in 2009 and 2010 by MTV Network’s Logo channel. Its success it put down to, according to Jason Cooley, the president of Abbey Food and Bar in West Hollywood, the fact that everyone who walks through the door is a VIP. The bar treats you as a star whether you’re an A List celeb or Joe Pubic. Bravo them I say.

Manana, Puerto Vallarta
Down to Mexico now for what must be the best, most popular bar in the country, and one of the top gay bars in the world. Out.com had it there in its list of the 60 best. Manana is all about hedonism all the way with events, raves, dancing, bars and a pool. The advice is not to swim in the pool though, presumably it’s a safety thing. The bar/club featured go-go dancing boys from nine pm every night, when the doors open, until 4.00 am, but the venue itself stays rocking until six. You’ve got hot boy dancers every day, happy hour until midnight and a hot and sultry destination for romance and cruising.

Roscoe’s, Chicago
Roscoe’s is one of Chicago’s best known and best loved gay venues. It’s described as a ‘place to go to for a chill out after work during the week,’ but there is more to it than that. It’s got a very flashy website of its own where the calendar of events shows you that there is something going on more or less every night of the week; from Karaoke to drag. Many live events and special drink promotions, a friendly atmosphere and just a general feeling of fun and friendship pervade on the side of the lake at Roscoe’s. There is also a café so you can eat, drink and party the nights way whether you’re a visitor or local.

The Week Rio/Sao Paulo
And last, but not least, down in Brazil, we’ve got The Week to look forward to. (Full name, The Week International.) Trip Out Gay Travel called it ‘the best disco in Sao Paulo, it has been alive since September 2004 and covers 64,000 square feet of space. Er, that’s pretty huge. And it gets packed – you have to wonder where all the guys come from. But come from somewhere they do, and the venue is constantly at or near the top of the top-lists for the world’s best gay venues. Expect over 2,500 visitors, guests, party-goers and hunky guys each weekend, and expect to be up all night – in more ways than one.

Again, just a quick run down of a few of the best gay bars in the world, according to various sources. It’s up to individuals to remember their favorites or best venues of course. As for me? I’m still thinking about the guy and the egg and spoon race at the Vauxhall Tavern all those years ago…

Our Pick for Best Gay Bar in The World goes to Heaven Nightclub in London.

Next on the list is Exit from Amsterdam and as everyone dreams of going to this alternative pot smoking city we find ourselves wondering do they really have a good gay scene or is it all hype.  Do the bars close down at 2am?  No, actually they close down at 5am unlike some stories I have heard.  But judging from the pics from Exit it is not the multi-leveled club I was looking for but I’d rather go in person and judge for myself.

Le Drugstore in Montreal, Quebec is listed as one of the nominees being a hot lesbian club.  The biggest lesbian club in the World for over ten years.  Does it have the fierceness to be the hottest gay spot in the world?

Sidetrack in Chicago, Illinois is listed as a nominee and it is one of the funnest bars I have been in.  Just because it is in Chicago mainly.  You can see Ms. Fuzee doing her thing here and catch some chat with some hotties on the patio.  The dancefloor seems rather claustrophobic since it is so tight but its still a fun club/bar.

Rio & Sao Paulo both have clubs called “The Week”.  Must be a good “week” not just a “good night”.  So if you have a feeling for these clubs and you know its gonna be a good week then vote for this one.  I think every gay boys dream vacation is to hit up the A-list over in Rio and meet some hot Brazilian boys.

The winner from our tastes goto the best gay club in the world from 2008 and will most likely get the award this year… Heaven Nightclub.  If you tour London and miss out on the hottest nightclub in the world then you missed Popcorn mondays and G-A-Y Saturday nights with fierce performers around 2am.  Friday’s are a bit too retro for me at this club but Saturdays are incredible and will make you hallucinate and see Steve Rubell dancing around in the corner because you know its a real club.

I walked inside the Rainbow Lounge on 651 S. Jennings and was quite impressed.  They played some kick ass music and had hot drag queens, and lots of dancers.  Probably too many pole dancers and not enough fun dancers on the dance floor but it was a great dance floor.

I noticed some of the same bartenders and staff as the Tin Room in Dallas.  The Rainbow Lounge had a VIP looking lounge area and big dancefloor.  Much bigger dance area with boxes and cages than I had expected.  The place kind of reminded me of the Majestic in Tulsa .  Although the Majestic has a bigger stage and is two levels.

Some of the performers at Rainbow Lounge include Whitney Paige and Ivana Tramp.  I meet a few other hot looking drag queens but do not remember their names but wished I did.  I will have to find out more next time.

Great place to visit and judging from my hangover today the drinks were good and strong.  I had to have someone drive me home last nite lol.  I did notice that Rainbow Lounge is 21 and up so I guess that is why people still drive over to Station 4 if they are 18 and up.  Unless Rainbow Lounge has 18 and up nights?  They certainly put on a great club for it being in Cow Town near the Stockyards.  I have to say I am very Proud!

Say you get stuck at the DFW airport sometime on a layover then spend the night and head over to the Rainbow Lounge you will certainly find something that will make the layover better.  They had fire dancers, pole dancers, girl gogo’s, a confused London boy, and huge martini glasses.

We should also note that recently this club has had a few episodes in the parking lot.   Be careful and make sure someone is walking with you out to the car because we just read that there is not enough security on certain nights outside and there has been a black male in a ski mask that pistol whipped a few of the patrons and robbed them walking to their cars.  This is something that seems to happen where most clubs are located though so its always best to be on alert and not talk to bums.  Best option is to call for help and run immediately.

As you can see the bartender is a hottie and the music was lots of fun.  They have boxes that you can dance on which is nice because most gay clubs in Vegas you have to watch the dancers dance and you do not get to be on the stage or box yourself.  You get tired of gogo dancers after awhile and want the damn box to yourself lol.  We will definately be back to this fun club on Sundays.. I heard they normally have a dress code but they did not seem to enforce it on Sunday night which is sweet.

There was also a decent crowd over at Krave on Sunday but they have the main floor closed off of course since its not a main club night.   The lounge is fun to hang out and DJ playing some old school music mixed in with the current club hits.

Boston Sundays are much funner than some cities and there were some hotties there too.  Good music and a fun dance on sofa kinda place.  Well it was dance on sofa and on top of the sofa “boxes”.  If that makes any sense.

The Hot Mess music is 80′s and 90′s and anything they say but Boy George.  Aww, why not Boy George?  I think one of his fan club sites links here =)

While we often see the stereotype of gay clubs featuring techno dance music, there are other options out there and more and more people are seeking out something new for their nights out. If you would rather wear your jeans and boots for a night on the town, gay country dancing clubs might be a good fit for you. While deciding to take the new man in  your life two stepping at the local country bar is possibly a bad idea, you can find gay country clubs and groups to let you do everything from line dancing to two stepping in a comfortable and inclusive environment. Many will even teach you, or perhaps someone cute will take pity on you and take you for your first twirl on the dance floor.

If you are looking for a gay country club, check your local clubs. In many big cities, you will find clubs exclusively devoted to two stepping and line dancing. Maybe they offer a country night. Have you asked for one? Many club owners will offer this fun option if they know their patrons want it. If you are looking for listings for some of the best gay country western clubs, Gay.com offers their list of the ten best at gay.com. There are gay country clubs in many southern and southwestern cities, allowing opportunities to socialize, dance and hang out with friends.

You might also try iaglcwdc.org, the International Association of Gay/Lesbian Western Dance Clubs to find a club near you that offers line dancing, square dancing or other country dances. You can even find gay country dance competitions through this organization and iagsdc.org, the International Association of Gay Square Dance Clubs. If you are looking for country dance lessons, you may find that you have to call around to multiple dance studios to find one that is inclusive and welcoming. If you have a local club, they may even offer classes. Taking a few lessons is a great way to improve your dance skills. Country dance is a great way to keep fit and make new friends or even perhaps meet someone special.

What to wear? Well, fortunately the uniform at a two stepping gay bar is easy. Jeans, preferably tight, cowboy boots, and a hat if you dare. Keep in mind that if you’re dancing a lot, you may get warm and might prefer something a bit more comfortable rather than quite so snug.

2. Charlie’s Chicago, IL – The coolest afterhours in Chicago after you take those boots off!
3. The Finish Line inside the Habanna Inn Oklahoma City, OK – There are some friendly folk in this joint!
4. Rainbow Cattle Co. Austin, TX

This is where the party seems to be every night in San Francisco.  I was in San Francisco over the holidays and it was packed with people every single night.  Badlands had great music and a cute little dance floor.  The bar/club is way congested but it is a place to be if you want to socialize in San Francisco.  Badlands is definitely the best place to go for dancing in the Castro since there is nothing better in terms of size of a dancefloor or music that I noticed in the area.

The Boy Bar Night @ The Bar:

This is a night where they have younger dancers on stage at the bar off of Market and Castro next door to Subway.  The boy bar night is held on Thursdays.

The Café – is the really red looking club you see on the Castro.  I wouldn’t call this small place a club it is more of a room with a small hallway like dancefloor and a patio for smokers.  The Café is very trendy and seems to be mixed with some straight people as well as gays.

Friday Nights (after 11pm or so) and Sunday Mornings –

EndUp (401 Sixth Street @ Harrison) – the EndUp looked scary from the outside and kind of scary on the inside and had a jacked up dancefloor which seems like you are dancing inside someone’s attic.  The EndUp had a really cool outside patio and a few rooms to venture into.  I would not take any party favors to the EndUp they have someone at the front door asking what every little thing in your pockets are like you are going through a TSA line.  That alone makes that club suck.

Saturday nights:

If you are going out in the Castro area on Saturday I recommend Mezzanine for the  circuit crowd and Badlands for the drinking and dancing crowd.  Then there is the EndUp for early in the morning.

Tuesday night – Tranny night at Stud Bar.  This was quite a night that gave San Francisco a different taste than any other city.  It was so much fun because there were so many short shows put on by different drag queens that were very creative and fun.  Be prepared to be stuffed into this small bar where you cannot get a drink or move to goto the bathroom.  The people were rather jerks if you wanted to come back from the bar or from the bathroom from the spot that you previously had.  I guess there is no movement allowed during the Tranny show at the Stud Bar.

Other Castro Bars:

Metro City Bar & Grill (3600 16^th Street @ Market) – fun bar with a view and a nice revolving crowd.
