Pixie Lott, an Artist to Watch

Friday, May 7th, 2010

When you think of Pixi here in the US you think of a skimmed down version of the Palm Pre phone that never really took off only to be bought out by a HP. The Pixie we are about to show you is nothing of a weak phone but a talented woman who defies ‘gravity.’

I worked in radio for three years hearing acoustic performances in the radio station conference room so I really enjoy hearing new artists. I especially love it when record labels send me links to new songs or if I accidentally stumble upon one on myspace such as how I found Lady Gaga. I was like who was this diva… thought it was a drag queen at first. Oh wait.. ok, nevermind. I think one of my favorite artists who played for us at the radio station was a teen and his dad and all the boybands trying out were fun to watch. But it is always those soon-to-be divas that really caught my eye.

My friend sent me an email telling me about a new artist over in Europe that is “set to become the next Lady Gaga”. He knows how obsessed I am (everyone) for Miss Gaga. I looked over her videos online and heard some other tracks and think she is more like a mix of Natasha Bedingfield and Lily Allen. ‘Cry Me Out,’ is a single that really brought back some kind of nostalgic memory and quickly turned into one of my radio pick favorites.

The ‘Boys and Girls’ would definitely be a song I could hear Tracy Young doing something with or the ‘Gravity’ song. ‘Boys and Girls’ sounds a bit more like Gaga but then again I like my ‘Boys, Boys, Boys,” literally.

I think if Pixie Lott did a partnership with the Palm Pixi then HP shares may defy gravity as well as Palm sales! She could definitely be a good circuit talent. If you want to see her live you can see her shows at the O2 arena in London May 10-11. Pixie is also playing the V Festival in Stafford on August 21. BBC 1′s Big Radio Weekend in Wales also has her booked on May 22-23.

I just want to ask who are those cute blond twink dancers featured in the LOGO played ‘Make My Heart’ Video.  The trend of the hot white gay dancers is bring more white boys out of the closet to dance and that is a great thing.  In the past you noticed that white guys were normally last to come out in the dancing world.  This album so far has been great and look forward to hearing the rest and hope Toni Braxton can hit up some gay circuit events this year or stop by some of our mega-clubs such as Sobe in Houston and come play with the boys where she does not have to do something as contemporary as the Flamingo at Las Vegas.

Boy George is Back with Amazing Grace

Monday, March 29th, 2010

You would think we would be blogging about the other oldschool artist Ricky Martin coming out today but if were not aware Ricky Martin was gay then you need to step out from under your own rock. Yes, Ricky is gay… moving on to someone very, very gay. I mean if you have the words Boy and George in your name that should signal yes I am queer and flawless.

Here is the new Amazing Grace Video from Boy George which is on sale right now on iTunes. This video is amazingly beautiful and takes you away into this psychedelic world. Very cool stuff keep it up and glad to see you are back in our clubs giving us a high dancing to your music!!

One of my favorite songs of all time was Karma Chameleon from Culture Club and I am so glad to hear that Culture Club may be doing an reunion tour soon. Boy George has appearances to DJ in the UK but has still not set any dates here in the US maybe because of his past restrictions and cancellations.

Dancefloor ‘Naturally’ revolving with Louboutins

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

Next week Justin Bieber is scheduled to be the number one album in the U.S. on top of the Billboard charts with “My World 2.0″.  The 16-year old singer has been getting so much publicity and club play the past month this was not far from predictable.  Hip hop nights in the gay clubs his music makes it a little more enjoyable along with Rihanna’s “Rude Boy” and we love all things Rihanna.

A great comparison of the new single coming out from Lady Gaga is that “Alejandro” is a campy, but fairly mundane, tune from “The Fame Monster” that reminds us of Madonna’s “La Isla Bonita” crossed with Abba’s “Fernando.”  I thought this was a great summary of the song and it is definitely catch.  I heard Kiss FM in Dallas add it to their playlist Sunday night.  It will be a dancefloor sensation just like every other Gaga song but what about “Dancing in the Dark?” it will be the hottest club song of the year if not ever when it hits the turntables and the remixes are released.  Trust me on that.  It not only has a sense of Madonna “Vogue” from her rapping part of the song but it really makes you want to um Dance!

J Lo, who has became Jennifer Lopez again somehow is now strutting around with her Louboutins on and not falling on her butt yet on the US Dancecharts and club play.  She reached number one last week and the gay boys are just lovin her new hit.  The other person who fell on their butt on the American Music Awards performance but had an extremely controversial and sexy performance was Adam Lambert.  His guitarist is a cute but straight acting twink and you cannot blame him for grabbing him and kissing him.  “For Your Entertainment,” and “What Do You Want From Me” have both turned into dance hits and there were many people who asked for him to perform at Gay Prides and at the White Party in Palm Springs but he has not been signed to either. ..yet.

Then there comes this one song that just came out of nowhere called “Naturally”.  I immediately had to download it on my iTunes and looked for remixes on Masterbeat.  Naturally, a song by Selena Gomez and The Scene is off her album “Kiss & Tell”.

Madonna has been back on the dancefloor with her “Revolver” song and you could hear that from every party to the Winter Party in Miami at the pool (via the Perry Twins) to the Tigerheat Thursdays in LA.  Its such a great dance song but some of the remixes I have heard of it have been to twangy if there is such a thang.  Well the the David Guetta versus mix is the one that kind of ruined the song for me.  I like the PVD mix of the song and the original is better than that mix.  Why not play the Tracy Young remix that is on Masterbeat and shoots to kill (bang, bang).  Revolver is one of the best workout songs when you are at the gym it really helps you knock the next set out.

One of the most underrated songs that I haven’t heard much about would be the Toni Braxton song Make My Heart.  I was sent the song and listen to it every time I get ready to go out.  Gives me energy to get ready and just love it.  Do not think I have heard it on the internet dance stations played much yet though or at the clubs for some reason but it deserves a top 5.  Well ok it was a #2 on the Masterbeat for the month so far.   Ok, so here is our list of the top songs of February and March 2010 in the clubs, at the circuit parties, and in our homes or the ones that should be in our bedrooms and dancefloors.

Revolver Release Parties

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

Madonna’s ‘Revolver’ is set to be released as the second single from the Celebration album which was a greatest hits collection but two songs.  The Revolver song was a song with Lil’ Wayne but does not include him in some of the hottest remixes such as the PVD – Paul Van Dyk mix played on BPM and in clubs.

Tigerheat the 18 and up once-a-week event in LA in the Avalon venue will be bringing you the CD release party for “Revolver” tonight.

Tonight at TigerHeat we will be causing a commotion in Hollywood as we get together to celebrate the CD single release of “Revolver” taken from the latest greatest hits collection “Celebration” from the material girl, Madonna! “Revolver” features Lil Wayne and is now available as both a digital EP and a CD maxi single, complete with remixes by David Guetta, Paul van Dyk and Tracy Young. Everybody is heading down tonight to TigerHeat to get into the groove as we play the hottest Madonna music videos all night long. There is bound to be plenty of hanky panky going on as we digger deeper and deeper into our prize vault and dress you up in rare Madonna t-shirts and posters and copies of her new 2 disc CD “Celebration” and “Revolver” CD maxi singles! Be sure to express yourself, and enter our drawing for your chance to be our lucky star for the night, courtesy of her record company. Come feel the HEAT tonight at TigerHeat, “where the beautiful strangers meet every Thursday night”

‘Revolver’ has been playing in BoysTownLive for months now and on BPM as an add for a few weeks.  The clubs have been slow in getting this song launched but this is most likely Madonna’s record label moving things along slowly…

Orlando’s official release party will be held on Thursday, February 18th at Revolution Nightclub off 375 Bumby Ave.  There is no cover with a College ID or a Theme Park employee ID (hey Disney boys) until 12.  Showtime is at midnight with Angelica Sanchez and the pledge cast.

Perry Twins on Tour 2010

Friday, January 29th, 2010

You always should know when the hottest DJ’s are coming to a city near you.  Let’s drop the list of when and where the hottest twin dj’s will be performing (below).  They are currently on the set filming the latest Lady Gaga video in an abandoned prison.  The video will show them with Beyonce and Lady Gaga as part of her upcoming ‘Telephone’ hit.  I was not too big on the ‘Video Phone’ song but I sure love the ‘Telephone’ version and if it includes the Perry Twins than it will be packed with lots of talent!

They will be at the Winter Party in Miami which is a circuit event that is to not be missed!  The pool party alone at the Doubletree Surfcomber is such a good time!!

2009 Dance Music Countdown

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

madonna celebration top song 2009We should finish off the year 2009 with a taste of some of the hottest music played across America and in the U.K,  This will come next month as we will have a year end music countdown instead of just a December top 20.  The best songs played all year will be the same countdown put together as previous years and it will shock you what song will be number one.  Will it be Taylor Swift’s, you know the girl that won every award known to God.

The last few months we have had so much new music my iTunes balance has sure been eating away at my credit cards, Mix and new single after single,  I was not exactly excited like the rest of the world of Susan Boyle because I doubt her music will turn into club hits unless well something just strange happens but anything is possible.

Taylor Swift is the most over talked about artist but her mixes make damn good Circuit plays, You can really feel her music deep when in the right mix,  Madonna celebration and revolver were two songs that made club nights that much more funner ever since August.  Madonna’s Revolver just recently was given a release date which featured a new remix from Paul Van Dyk (PVD) which is a killer mix.

Justin Bieber has to be one of the fastest growing name teen artists.  He is just unstoppable at this point and his older teen idol now grown up Jesse McCartney had out Body Language that went well on radio and at clubs.  Justin looks 14 but he is really 16 we found out.

Then there are the hottest international mainstream DJ’s Tiesto and David Guetta who have been on a US tour bringing in big crowds.   Not as much dancing going on at these as I suspected because it was more concert-like unfortunately.   The Dancing is much hottter.  David Guetta was unstoppable this year reaching the number one spot on Billboards Dance charts for 2009. That is quite an accomplishment considering his number two challenger was Katy Perry with Waking Up In Vegas a theme song throughout the year.  We love waking up in Vegas with or with one or two or three or four or more…

I looked over the Billboard charts, Masterbeat, and put in where I thought some songs landed as far as club play at the parties I went to in 2009 and came up with this list of the top dance songs of 2009–

Top 40 Dance Floor Hits of 2009

1.  Celebration – Madonna (Benny Benassi Remix Edit)

2. Beautiful U R – Deborah Cox (Yinon Yahel mix)

3. Bad, Bad Boy – Perry Twins f. Niki Harris (DJ Escape & Dom Capello Club Mix)

4. Poker Face – Lady Gaga (Jody Den Broeder Mix)

5.  Waking Up in Vegas – Katy Perry (Manhattan Clique Mix)

6.  Be Alright – Kristine W (Perry Twinks Los Angels and Demons Radio Mix)

7. When Love Takes Over – Kelly Rowland mixed by David Guetta

8.  Obsessed – Mariah Carey (Cahill Radio Mix)

9.   The Fear – Lily Allen (Stonebridge)

10.  Evacuate the Dancefloor – Cascadia (wideboys)

11. Kelly Charksen-  Already Gone

12. Love Game – Lady Gaga (Robots to Mars mix)

13.  Whitey Houston -  Million Dollar Bill mix

14.  I Gotta Feeling – Black Eyed Peas

15.   Miles Away – Madonna

16.  Love Struck – V Factory / Tracy Young Club

17.  Drop A House – DJ DeMarko

18.  Knock You Down – Keri Hilson

19. Wanted – Jessie James

20. Please Don’t Leave Me – Pink (Digital Dog Club Mix)

21. Madonna Akon Celebration Mix (under the strobelights)

22.  Love Story – Taylor Swift (Digital Dog Club Mix) [could not find a good mix that features the guitar which would have been hotter]

24. Express Yourself – Original Mix

25.  Jesse McCartney – Body Language

26.  Adam Lambert For Your Entertainment

27.  Whateva – Peter Rauhofer Remix

33.  Battlefield – Jordin Sparks

34.  Sweet Dreams – Beyonce

35. Patron Tequila – Paradiso Girls f. Lil Jon

36.  Black Eyed Peas – Boom Boom Pow

37.  Loca – Ranny f. Nina Flowers

38. Human – The Killers

39.  Infinity Guru Josh Project

40.  Party in the USA – Miley Cyrus

Honorable Mentions-

Spaceman – The Killers; Everything – Ron Reeser; I Hate this Part – Pussycat Dolls, Wish U Love (Original Club Mix)

While we have Madonna Celebration listed as the number one song of 2009 we see that BPM has Kaskade Step One Two as their top song and Billboard has the Kelly Rowland David Guetta combo as theirs.  The number two and three spots you could change around and get both Katy Perry and Deborah Cox on ours and the Billboard.  BPM playlist for ’09 has Lady Gaga Pokerface as the number three spot.   I would say that BPM, which merged with the Beat in 2009 should have combined the playlists of both for the 2009 finale.  I would think that Lady Gaga would be the ultimate number one song of 2009 if you put the playlists together of what the Beat played.

I do not believe we had any new songs out from Erasure but we did get to see Andy Bell play a pool party for a bit at the White Party in Palm Springs and did see him last year on the True colors tour.  I suspect something will come from him next year.

Lady Gaga Papparazzi certainly had the hottest video of 2009 but it looks like it was not a dance hit like her other songs.  In 2010, look for Kesha Tic Tok to blast off to be a #1 dance hit maybe of the year if she keeps up her momentum!

Madonnan will be releasing a new album in early Spring of 2010 which will feature some of today’s biggest artists as usual.  We can certainly expect her new album to be a hot one.  I just hope she brings back her breakdance boy who performed with her on the Confessions tour he was missing on the Sticky and Sweet tour this year.
