Many people will agree that after a night of partying with friends, the day after, we often feel the symptoms of a hangover. Waking up in the morning (or in the afternoon), feeling like a high speed train has crashed into your head. Most complaints are of fatigue, nausea, dizziness and body aches. You’ll find yourself laying in your bed regretting the night before and wishing the pain away. If you’re like me, you’ve been looking for something that will not only help you get over a hangover quickly, but will also make you feel even better than you did before. Well before your next night out on the town, I have a few products that promise a great night and an even better morning.

The PartySmart pill offers a natural solution that promises to protect your liver while alleviating your hangover symptoms. Per the instructions, you are to take one capsule at least 30 minutes before drinking or sometime after your first drink. The ingredients include herbal remedies to prevent liver damage, antioxidants and detoxification. According to the reviews, this pill delivers what it has promises. The next day, some of the “researchers” exhibited none of the usual hangovers symptoms. While there were those that experienced nausea and fatigue, the symptoms were dramatically reduced.

If you’ve been to your local pharmacy, you may have seen the hangover pill, Chaser. This product claims to act as a filter to prevent the absorption of toxins allowing them to pass safely through your body. One key ingredient in Chaser is charcoal, which is used by hospitals, to absorb drugs in cases of overdose and poison control. For hangover prevention, you take two pills before your first drink and two more pills periodically throughout the night, after a few drinks and after a few hours. While there may be some positive reviews, most stated that Chaser did not deliver on its promises. Most woke up with nausea and headaches; although many people stated that their symptoms weren’t as severe as they would have been without taking Chaser.

Another popular hangover pill is RU 21, this product was created by the former Soviet Union’s KGB and has been featured in several health and fitness magazines. RU 21 is a natural dietary supplement, enhanced with vitamins that will prevent hangovers and boost energy. With this product, you have to take two pills before your first drink and two pills after your last drink. While RU 21 has proven to be effective for moderate drinking, those that drank in excess experienced hangover symptoms the next day. Many also couldn’t remember if they had taken the last two pills.

With each new hangover product on the market claiming to prevent the “morning after“ pain and regret, it’s obvious that not all can deliver on it what it claims. Of the reviewed products, there is one consistent theme, that they are most effective when drinking in moderation. So before your next trip to the local pub or fraternity party, don’t forget your designated driver and your hangover pills. With that you can party hard and wake up with less regret.

With Hurricane Earl headed to P-town currently a Category 4 with sustained winds of 135mph he is headed directly for the East Coast.  That will cancel some big Labor Day events this year.  Earl is expected to be a Category 2 as he moves over the east coast of MA.  The Hurricane is expected to hit the P-town area on Friday night.  If this is a direct hit it could do a lot of damage and people may not realize how rare direct hits are and the damage it can do along with the storm surge and flooding.  I would recommend changing your travel plans this year to New Orleans Southern Decadance or Austin’s Splash Days weekend.

A few years ago we announced before the New Orleans disaster people were able to change their plans to Austin and that Lake Travis event was bigger than ever.  Austin has the big clubs including Kiss and Fly, Oil Cans, and Rain and the capacity for the extra people so I would recommend going there or there are parties in LA and NYC going on.  Jeffrey Sanker is throwing a big Memorial Day event in LA.  I was hoping to check out P-town myself this year but will be changing it to Austin now.

A HURRICANE WATCH has been issued by the National Hurricane Center for that part of MA including Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket, and P-town.

The top females up for awards are Lady Gaga for “Poker Face”, Beyonce “Single ladies”, Katy Perry “Hot n Cold”, Kelly Clarkson “My Life Would Suck Without You”, Pink “So What”, and Taylor Swift for “You belong with me”.  I was surprised that the better Lady Gaga video of “Paparazzi” was not nominated it should be Video of the Year.  I was also shocked that Britney Spears video of “If U Seek Amy” was not up for an award.  Also, what about Lily Allen and Katy Perry? Madonna “Give it 2 Me” should be up for something as well.

The Best Male Video consisted of Eminem, Jay-z, Kanye West, Ne-Yo, and T.I. featuring Rihanna.  I voted for Eminem since it was by far an awesome video and Eminem looked damn hot dressed as Britney Spears.

Best Pop Video had Britney’s Womanizer, Single Ladies, Cobra Starship, Lady Gaga, and Wisin Y Yandel (they call this a pop song?). Not too happy with the pop music listings they could have watched their own videos to figure this one out or they could have had a better voting selection.  Oh wait MTV doesn’t play videos… you have to watch MTV Hits channel for that.  I have a feeling that either Britney or Gaga will win this selection.

My three favorite categories are the best choreography, breakthrough video, and a new category called the “best video that should have won a moonman”.  George Michael “Faith” is listed in this new category and I hope he wins it.  Also, Bjork’s Human Behavior and an all time classic California Girls from David Lee Roth.

Best Breakthrough video shoudl be Matt and Kim “Lessons Learned” who get out of a van while in the middle of times square in NYC and go streaking.  That was a hot video full of some homoerotic pleasure.  Then again Lady Gaga’s Pokerface had that hottie on the couch and that was a hot image to keep in my thoughts.

My pick for the best choreography will be Britney Spears “Circus” or Ciara ft. Justin Timberlake for “Love Sex Magic”.  Although, Justin Timberlake and his SNL skit or youtube hit of the Single Ladies should be winning this category over Beyonce.

Best New Artist is too hard to decide with the hotties of 3oh!3 and the college boys of Asher Roth vs. the fierceness of Lady Gaga.  Got to love Kid Cudi “Day N’ Nite” in this category as well.  This will be a hard one to predict.

Let’s hope we see some hot performances at this years MTV VMA’s.  I can already predict we will see Chris Brown and Rihanna.  MTV loves drama and will probably have them on stage together or something.  We might see Madonna on stage in NYC for this show because she will be done with her Sticky and Sweet tour by then and she will be promoting her new Celebration album.  I can predict Mariah Carey, Lil Wayne and everyone else out with new fall albums will be on stage networking to the viewers.  And what will Lady Gaga have up her sleeves to shock us with next?  Oh yeah expect to see some type of drama between Mariah and Eminem.

LOGO is of course the MTV owned network that has some of the best programming for the GLBT community.  The Gay Sketch Show, Sordid Lives, and their music countdowns.  My favorite is Sordid Lives but I am loving Ru Paul’s Drag Race so far this season.

We found there to be lots of great videos on this site and saw one of the hottest guys in a video we had not seen before…  “Allow me to introduce myself… Mr. Right” by the White Tie Affair.  Is this guy single or gay or both?  The videos seem clearer than watching You Tube and you have them all on-demand without having to search for the hot ones… someone has already done that for you! I could not find a way to embed the videos but I am sure that feature is coming.

I am glad to see LOGO supporting the gay club scene!

The boys meet on Gaydar a social networking site for the GLBT mostly used in European countries.  The Singer Boy George also known as George O’ Dowd who has recently been known for his DJing rather than his singing contacted Audun Carlsen on Gaydar.com to take some modeling pictures (or escorting perhaps?).  Audun Carlsen did an interview with a Norwegian Magazine where he said that Boy George wanted more than to take pictures and that he refused to have sex with him and that he was high on lots of “cokain” cocaine.  He went on to say that refusal was too much for the Culture Club star and that he and a buddy tied him up where he had his hand cuffed somehow hanging from a hook on the wall.

The whole story sounds rather crazy to me.  I mean you have a guy known as an escort or is he a model or whatever he is and an ex-pop singer now DJ.  The 29-yr old boy from Kristiansand acts as if George was the only one on Cocaine or drugs… yeah right.  Honey that would be like getting in Willie Nelsons RV and not getting high on the herbs smoking in there.  Turns out they were both on the white powder.

Could he have stolen pictures from George?  All I know is that the “model” is much hotter in the photos that Boy George took.  And where is the other guy involved in beating him up and tying him to the wall or is he just embarrassed to admit he was involved in some kind of crazy shoot with Boy George.

The eighties superstar had a tour planned last year in the United States but was not granted a visa at the time.  He was known for being out quite a bit in the NYC club scene before his return to the UK…he maybe should have stayed in the US.  It seems like a court sentence that was unfair given the circumstances of both of the men (or boys in this case).

This was nothing when you think of the Party Monster club kids or the horrible things that happened to Bryan Kocis of Cobra Video.

Keep in mind I’m not giving out advice to drink and drive or to get so intoxicated that you can’t stand up straight.  I do know many get DWI’s who do not deserve it who have had only a few drinks.  Some police officers use drinking and driving to pull over expensive looking cars so they will get overtime when the DWI/DUI goes to court.  You have to know your rights and know how to act when you do plan on a night of drinking.

Recently, a big scandal has broken out between the Austin Police and the gay bars in Austin. I first designed these tips to help prevent something bad happening from the findings of their DWI survey for that area. These tips can be used in any city not just in the big cities of  Texas,  Los Angeles (think Heather Locklear and Lindsey Lohan), Orlando, Anywhere, USA this can apply.  You may not like these tips but here they are:

1. Dance it off. Afterhours are the best cure for not drinking and driving.  The jerks making it hard to get dance permits could prevent most of the drinking and driving by allowing dancing until at least 4am.  If you’re going to Oil Cans on a Saturday you can stay dancing I think until 3:30am or 4am.  That’s an hour at least to dance your ass off and detox… much better than what the police officers have to offer.
2. If you’re going to get drunk then rent a hotel room (in advance) but be careful walking to it you could get public drunk.  They are obviously on ALERT for the Austin gay bars.  You might be able to get a room at the bathhouse or a hostel if the hotel is too expensive (you probably can’t get a room anywhere without prior reservations if you are too intoxicated or you could be their liability).
3. Drink a Red Bull before you leave the club.  The first thing police do when they pull you over is flash a bright flashlight in your face – a Red Bull can help take out some of that drunken glare.
4. Change your route back or goto an afterparty on the way home (i.e. The department stopped 7,000 drunk drivers with the majority of them being at Mopac and Interstate 35.)  Better yet, find a trick to go home with and spend the night lol.
5. Take your gay flag, pride and Obama signs and stickers off your car.  Sorry but you will stick out like a sore thumb on the road and they do “profile” you no matter what you think.  Hey, this might also keep your car from being keyed.  There are some crazies out there.
6. You know that wrist band the club gives you or stamp on your hand.  Before you leave the clubs take it off and lick your other hand to rub the stamp off completely before getting into a car driving or even with someone else driving.  Some clubs that are smart to this profiling will know to have door people cut the bands off when patrons leave at 3am or 2am.
7. Make sure all your inspection stickers and car tag is up to date.  If you can’t afford to keep this shit up to date then you should not even be on the road.  Wait until your welfare check comes in to go clubbin.  Your priorities should be better managed =)
8. Make sure you are not in semi-drag if you are driving on bare tires.  I’ve heard too many stories of fem boys getting flats because they did not take care of their tires and when you’re standing out there in drag like an elephant in a church with the smell of alcohol then you can expect an expensive tow and a free trip to jail.
9. If you do get pulled over then respect the officer.  Most of them drink – I know I have partied and done charity events and many other things (*wink*) with them.  Don’t be defensive or try and be mouthy to them.  Say Yes Sir, No Sir you know like you are in some sort of bondage thing.  They are doing their job in most cases and may even have a quota to meet so don’t be one of the “numbers” be 2,000% respectful.
10. Beware of Wannabes.  A big problem with any club or bar are the “rent-a-cops”.  They are always worse than a real police officer because they have major ego problems and almost anyone who has went to clubs has had a problem with one of these kinds.  They may be mad at the world because they could not get a job with the real police force or mad because they have to deal with drunks and have not gotten laid in months who knows.  Don’t try and make friends with these people just stay away and keep your mouths shut and don’t run from the rentals.  Keep in mind you can sue their private company later if they do something wrong.

No one gets a free get out of jail card.  This is not a monopoly game.  Ask Boy George, Paris Hilton, and Britney Spears on that one.

It’s obvious from this new report coming out of the Austin Police Department that they are either focusing on the traffic from the gay bars or exaggerating the numbers to make rid themselves of gay money in downtown Austin. Austin is one of the most beautiful cities in the country and the gay scene there is definitely worth fighting for. The conservatives in Austin are most likely not happy with the liberals walking around downtown and want to put a stop to it. I noticed lots of ghetto people fighting and raging towards each other over on the “Mardi Gras” street next to the Gayer street on 4th. Police are flat out confused if they say that Oil Can’s and Rain are the problem.

It does not take an expert to tell that the drunken pinheads fighting each other in the streets (maybe they are not driving somehow) on the streets next to 4th are absolutely not coming from Rain or Oil Cans. Then again if the patrons are being pulled over this often from the two gay establishments then they need to either quit drinking so much and making the bars look bad or they need to blame it on another establishment they went to the same night (if they actually get the choice).

Parking is hell down on the 4th and 6th streets anyway in Austin. I recommend car pooling with a designated driver or just cabbing it when you go out in Austin. If you visit Austin then get a hotel downtown that is walking distance to the bars – do not drive to a hotel to save a few dollars. Yes, hotels are expensive in Austin for some freak reason as expensive as hotels in Vegas or on the beach in Florida (why?? I still have not figured out – possibly from all the conventions in Austin and Football games, etc).

The police do not want to scare off the drunken football goers (the tourism) who come to the UT games but they want to make sure people calm down on the drinking and driving from the downtown area. This may be the reason they used the gay bars as the talking points.

If your going to OCH – Oil can Harry’s or Rain then drink less alcohol and drive less.  Drink more water and red bull.

UPDATE 2: NHC Has Gustav making landfall around 8pm (not 8am as stated earlier) on Monday but the outer bands of the storm should be there around 12 hours earlier.

Could Hurricane Gustav Cancel Southern Decadence? Looks like Chi Chi LaRue may be moving her wigs to another city as the winds blow the direction of New Orleans disrupting the big gay Labor Day festivities.

It was exactly this time three years ago that Southern Decadence was going through the same worries with a hurricane headed its way. They had no idea that it would do the damage it did to New Orleans even though the TV meteorologists kept repeating that the flooding was possible. The gays that were supposed to party at the gay version of mardi gras in NOLA either did not go there that year at all and canceled their vacations for Labor Day weekend or they went and got the hell out of town when they were told its time to leave and abandon the city entirely.

This year the 5-day cone issued from the National Hurricane Center on the NOAA website projects that New Orleans is in the track of Hurricane Gustav which could be a Category 4 hurricane. We could see a repeat of Labor Day weekend from 2005 which is three years ago tomorrow. The official National Hurricane Center track has this storm hitting New Orleans as a category 3 or 4 Monday morning at 8 am.

Remember If you have to cancel your trip to New Orleans you can always come to Austin for the weekend. There is Splash weekend going on and that is where all the cute boys are headed anyway. The storms should not reach Austin until after the Labor day festivities. Come on down to Austin and party it up with the big boys of University of Texas nearby. Better be safe than sorry!

You may not even get the chance to be trapped in New Orleans because I have read that they will not allow anyone into the city Friday if this happens.

If a Category 3 or stronger hurricane comes within 72 hours of the city, New Orleans plans to institute a mandatory evacuation order. Unlike Katrina, there will be no massive shelter at the Superdome, a plan designed to encourage residents to leave. Instead, the state has arranged for buses and trains to take people to safety.

Update #2 – JustCircuit.com just sent an email about Southern Decadence to its readers stating “Please take note: all New Orleans Decadence events will take place. Threatening weather from Hurricane Gustavo is not expected to arrive until early Monday morning.” which is accurate but you must consider that a mandatory evacuation order will not be worth the risk of going to New Orleans and being stuck at an Airport or on a bus and risking others lives who live in New Orleans.  I would advise to skip this year and return next year.
