Leavin’ Jesse McCartney

May 28th, 2008

This boy is just too hot. Jesse McCartney who freshly turned 21 and is now legal to drink is bringing sexy back with a new video Leavin’. I have not been fortunate enough (hint hint) to hear this in a club yet but I am sure it will be huge especially in the video bars.

Here is a remix to the new single and a video that is too hot for this blog. This is the Solar city remix.
(the video ‘remix’ version was taken down)

Shreveport Station

May 28th, 2008

When you think of Shreveport you normally think of one of the gambling cities of the Southern states close to the swamps of Louisiana.  We recently traveled to an event in Pensacola, FL and decided to stop in on the way to Baton Rouge, LA.  We looked over the websites online first to see if anything was open on a Thursday night.  We found out they have bars open until 6am.  I am jealous of a city that has bars open until 6am since I am normally in cities that only serve alcohol until around 2am (sometimes closing around 1:40 or so).

Baton Rouge bars close at 3am so since we were going to be driving through at 2am we thought Shreveport would be our best bet.  We drove first to the Central Station club which is located right underneath I-20 and near the Line exit.  We had trouble finding a street sign that was not faded out to make sure we were turning on the right streets.  We finally found the street and there was no lights on or anything and it was completely dark outside with some bum following our car.

I was actually just joking around saying that was the club and it really turned out to be the building that the club was in called Central Station.  Since the outside lights were not turned on we thought the club was dead and it was not exactly the safest looking area so we jolted out of there.  Our return trip we went by there in the semi-daylight and learned that they had just not had the light strands on the outside that night and that the parking was in the rear.

People from out of town would have no idea that the parking was in the rear or that the club was even still in business since there are no gay pride signs facing the street or no real signage.  Although there is an old engraved sign on the historic building that is hard to see at night.

On the return trip we discovered that this place looked like alot of fun.  We stopped by and had a few drinks and saw they had a nice outside patio, 2 dancefloors and one of them was rather big in another room they open for Fridays and Saturdays.  I totally want to check out this club when it is hopping on the weekends.

We also stopped into the Korner Lounge which is just a few blocks down the street and near some buildings with neat paintings.  It was seductive inside playing videos and a hunk of a bartender.

Both bars had video cameras on the parking lot which kind of made me weary to leave my car parked outside for too long.   Maybe because it is a casino town or because it is high crime? I am not sure.

Shreveport is a great place for a weekend trip to go gambling, drinking, and watch drag shows at the Korner Lounge and Central Station.

T-Town is the Town

May 20th, 2008

hot bartenderI have had Tulsa, Oklahoma on my mind recently because of an article I read in the Advocate. The Advocate, named Tulsa among the top five emerging cities for gays and lesbians using census data of the country’s 100 largest cities. Tulsa, which had 7.74 same-sex couples per 1,000 households in 2006, went from a rank of 77 in 2000 to 46 in 2006. We decided to check this Tulsa appeal out and spent the weekend in Tulsa. This was a last minute trip mainly also because we wanted a change of scenery for the weekend and it was so much fun. Yes, you heard it Tulsa, Oklahoma. They have the coolest turnpike where you can speed up to 75 (maybe 80) without worrying about a ticket which is better than most lame roads in America. Tulsa is also home to a beautiful Arkansas river walk where you can rent bikes for free as long as you have a credit card for a deposit. Oklahoma has a bad reputation because of people such as Rep. Sally Kerns but she is nothing but a witch just trying to get a book deal so don’t worry too much about her. She is definately not stopping the music in Tulsa.

Honestly, we took the trip to see a DJ and drag queen formerly from Angles in Oklahoma City and they were no where to be found when we arrived. We were disappointed at first because we got there on Friday and found out that Rachael Erikks show was on Thursday and she did not perform on Friday and we wanted to hear DJ Mike Strange since he always plays gay diva music and actually takes requests. Maybe we will catch up with them some other time. Although, Tulsa quickly exceeded our expectations and we became aware of a few new faces.

Friday nights at Club Majestic (124 N. Boston Ave) are loads of fun with drag shows on the hour which I think every club should do at least a one-song drag performance on the main dance floor. It makes things more exciting and changes the mood of the crowd. Chanelle Stirling can be seen dancing with other female impersonation talents on Fridays. Thursdays and Fridays are 18 to enter where the 21 year olds have a mezzanine bar upstairs but are free to carry drinks anywhere including the patio which is nice. Some clubs such as Gossip at Club Sound in Salt Lake City and Tigerheat in L.A. make you keep your drink in one roped off area.

DJ rikki shaySaturdays are 21 and up. This DJ is a must hear. DJ Rikki Shay (a hottie btw) really seems to do a lot of work prepping for the night because he had lots of new music and different remixes than the regular radio and mainstream club mixes. The crowd on Saturday was a late crowd but the club closed at 2am which was a major tease. We wanted to dance longer at least until 4am because we just loved his music. It’s funny that you pay $40 to hear some DJ’s and get a better night out of one you pay $5 to hear. I never thought I would be sweating dancing my azz off on the dancefloor in Tulsa. Did I mention the hot barstaff?

Cages to dance on. Stage to dance on. Hot dance music and good club lighting that comes up and down from the dance floor this club ranks in the best clubs I have been to in the U.S. Club Majestic in Tulsa is 10 times better than the Copa at the Habanna in Oklahoma City and better dancefloor than Station 4 in Dallas.

Renegades is another fun place to check out in Tulsa. Located on the other side of downtown on Main street they were performing drag to Grease. I think Renegades is open most of the day and also closes at 2am. We walked in expecting your normal boring bar but got a fun Broadway type show going on. I just loved the lesbians dressed as guys their facial expressions and everything! Loved it!

grease lightning show

If you plan to stay in Tulsa then you may want the hotel that is more convenient to the gay clubs. The Crowne Plaza hotel on 100 E. 2nd street is the closest hotel to the Majestic dance club and located close enough to I-244 to go just about anywhere in the metro area. The Downtown Plaza Hotel offers Club Majestic discounts located on 17 W. 7th Street. You can actually park free at most of the places we stopped at so don’t worry about spitting out 10 bucks for parking.

A few good places to eat include the Monterey Tex-Mex, Spaghetti Warehouse, and Mexicali Border Cafe. The Brook on Peoria is also a fun place to have drinks and some eatin’. The best radio station is 106.9 KHits if you need something to listen to while driving around town. Another great place to check out is Cain’s Ballroom which is a legendary venue always throwing some kind of event. The new BOK center almost completed downtown is one modern building that is sure to draw some big names to Tulsa… if it were only a huge mega-club. Maybe a Masterbeat party soon?

I may have to stay in Tulsa longer next time to check out Rachael Errikks Talent show on Thursdays and the Catia Lee Love Show on Sundays.

Pensacola for Memorial Day?

May 20th, 2008

shirtless guys on boatsThe big weekend is heading this way quick and we have still not decided whether to head to Austin, float rivers, or yet finalized plans for Memorial Day weekend. Last year we went to a new circuit party in Galveston but wanted to do something different this year. The picture to the left is from Lake Travis in Austin on Memorial Day weekend a few years ago. Sorry, no pictures for the Florida beach party yet…

Pensacola is on the top of our minds for the weekend because we have never been and they have a big DJ line up. I am just worried that this town only has one gay club and its ten degrees colder in Pensacola than Austin.

Here is the DJ line up and party info for Pensacola Memorial Day Weekend-

Pensacola Memorial Day starts off Thursday night (May 22) at Emerald City with DJ Jay-R with the ForePlay party. Johnny Chisholm brings back the popular beach party Friday night called Wave from 10pm to 5am with DJ Roland Belmares or the strip off contest at Emerald City. Things get sweaty with DJ David Knapp on Saturday night at the Emerald City club til 3am then afterhours at EC Warehouse until around 8am with DJ Phil B. spinning. Sunday you can see DJ Alyson Calagna spinning Friction at the only gay club Emerald City with afterhours at EC Warehouse again DJ Joe Gauthreaux. The final party is held Memorial Day Monday when it all comes to a “Climax” with DJ Dewight Barkley.

Yoga on the Dancefloor

May 16th, 2008

Circuit Noize magazine has some cool stuff in it when you are looking for the latest parties in Canada, U.S., and abroad. The latest issue has something I first thought of as a way to get over seeing your ex out at the club or take your mind off of the current drama. Or maybe a new way to dance… Yoga (maybe Diva) to the Dancefloor please…

I like the idea of bringing myself closer to the music. It is when you really feel the music that you dance the best when you feel the beats and the rhythm. That is one thing that those little blue rolls can do is bring you closer to the beats but there are natural highs you can bring out in yourself and feel the music.

The managing editor of Circuit Noize just so happens to be a Yoga instructor in NYC. Here is the Strike a pose article.

Sticky & Sweet Tour Announced

May 8th, 2008

sticky and sweet tour madonna 2008Gimme something to eat. Get on up on the Dance Floor. Madonna is going Sticky and Sweet for her new concert tour she just announced today. Tickets will go on sale on May 16th in Europe, May 17th in Chicago, and May 24th for most of the rest of the United States dates at 10am for non-fan club members. If you are an Icon fanclub member you can purchase your tickets sooner. She is also scheduled for the first time in several years to Houston, TX (or at least she has not been to Texas during the Reinvention or Confessions tour).

This concert will sell out fast and be the hottest concert of the year. Her last concert named the Confessions tour was the most amazing experience in person. I saw it twice and wished I would have seen it more live. Watching Madonna on DVD does not do the trick you have to see it live.

Once the tickets go on sale you should check out Ticketmaster.com to see if you can get a decent seat. If not, then goto Stubhub and they will have a seat in your area for a few hundred or a few grand depending on how close you want to be to the Queen of Pop.

18 and up clubs?

May 2nd, 2008

Why is it that most clubs are 21 and up?  Actually if you goto straight clubs they are normally 18 for girls and 21 for guys… talk about discrimination. But the guys like the younger girls to come in the club for the “scenery”.  Which ends up making more money for the clubs in drink sales.

I always wanted to sue the clubs that I could not get in at age 18 because of that kind of punishment for being 18 and not being able to get in a club that girls could parade around in.  They get away with it so we just have to deal with it.

But what makes clubs 21 to enter?  Well they have to worry about selling alcohol to minors and that is a big worry since police and the alcoholic beverage commissions are on the lookout constantly.

It takes extra money to hire extra security to look out for underage drinkers.  Undercover security that is that is always on the prowl to bust you drinking underage at the club.  If you are not slick with it you will get busted and kicked out for a long period of time if not until you are 21 which is the norm.

There are many clubs that are 18 and up and we feel that most clubs should be. We also feel it should be 18 to drink since its 18 to enter the military.  If you can fight for this country you should be damn well able to buy cocktails or beers and hang with the big dogs.

The liquor laws of countries differ and The U.S. expects you to fight in War but not be able to drink.  There is nothing cool about that. You can drink in France and Mexico just to name a few.  But no drinking in the United States if you are under 21.

Gaypartyblog.com is looking out for the 18-30 crowd and we always know where the party will be next.  Stay tuned for more updates.
