Another year, another White Party Palm Springs. This year was by far the most hyped up event ever in the history of gay events from the amount of Facebook posts and Twitter contests. When they first announced they would have a major recording artist performing even Perez Hilton got in the mix suggesting that Britney Spears would be there performing or lip jiving. Everyone was pleased that Robyn was the pick because we know that girl has the circuit following. If you have been to one of her concerts you will feel like you are in a circuit party. Then again these are her smaller shows.. You won’t feel that way at her Katy Perry show opening. Robyn did a great job as always and fresh from performing at the NewNowNext Awards.
Robyn’s setup though was more like that of a traveling band. It would have been nice to have had the set of the White Party from 2010 that had traveling LED screens across the stage or the appearance of that. The event overall seemed much better in 2010 and way more worth the money then. The VIP area for instance in the main area seemed to have a long line to get upstairs for it had an occupancy limit. The VIP of the the VIP? And why was there no VIP on Friday night Renaissance ballroom and Sunday nights afterhours events – when it was truly needed. If people are paying extra for these passes they would sure like to be able to buy a drink before 2am. The bartenders were the slowest moving bunch I have seen EVER. One bartender who looked like Blagojevich was a nice man and all but moved like a turtle and this was yes you guessed it.. in the VIP area. If I wanted to pay extra to stand around snooty people I’d join a Country Club…I want my drinks and I wanna dance!! And one more bitch about this area at the main party is they took away one of the most amazing things from last year…. the Massage boys were not there in the VIP this year. Lame. I will have to remember to BYO Masseur (J/K).
Was Hector Fonseca not into it Friday night or was it just the ridiculously slow drink lines? He looked hot and all but his music was not anything like I remembered it from his Cameo in Miami Winter Party closing which was one of the best sets ever. He also closed out Arabian Nights for Gay Days Orlando with Teresa and made us all sweat. The WP Palm Springs show this year needed something maybe I was in line for a drink when he played his Born this Way mix hes been posting on FB. And yes the drink lines ruined the night for most. Again slow bartenders and between a ticket line and another drink line that took 45 minutes we were unhappy campers. I realize not alot of people are drinking vodka but we could at least be able to have a line for water or real red bull.
My favorite moments of the White Party Palm Springs in 2011 were by far Peter Rauhofer and Wynter Gordan’s performances. The best performance at the pool was the group called Kerli and Jessie and the Toy Boys. Kerli is just the cutest thing ever and kind reminds me of Avril Levine. They sing ‘Army of Love’. Kerli had bears on the stage and umbrellas and the the coolest keyboardist. It was a magical moment that could have lasted forever! ‘Push it’ was then sung by Jesse and the Toy Boys which actually has a cute video taking place in a laundromat. This group will be opening up for Britney Spears in her Femme Fatale tour in just a few months so you get to see her Toy Boys again!
DJ Peter Rauhofer is someone I did not think could make a comeback in the gay circuit scene since his big throwdown with the Winter Party last year. Maybe they worked it all out but he played at a competing venue to a GLBT (Gay and Lesbian Taskforce) charity fundraiser Cameo Vs. Mansion. I was reluctant that he was performing for that reason but I don’t know his side of things so I should not have been. Then again if we can forgive Inaya Day then we can give the Rauhofer another chance. Let me tell you his music was amazeballs.. Everyone danced until 5am when the venue closed to move on to the afterhours.. from what I understand everyone danced so hard most could not even make it to the afterparty. How can he dj like that and not move around? I noticed he doesn’t dance around most like some do but wow he sure kicks ass! One of the best sets I have EVER heard.
I gotta hurry, hurry, hurry Happiness girl Alexis Jordan sung the Sunday Funday party to the desert sundown along with the Fabulous Freemasons. The firework show was beyond amazing it puts those July 4th shows to shame. Even if you hate music or can no longer hear because you like music too much you could see the firework show and be entertained. It is something you ahve to see in person out in the darkness of the desert.
The White Party Palm Springs started out with a cold front this year and our nipples were frozen on Friday. It warmed up Saturday and we sure did engage in some Fake tanning and tattoos with the great folks at Mastermind near the pool.
The White Party will go down as the hottest event for 2009 and 2010.. can’t say that for 2011… I bet Gay Days will take that away this year as the largest and hottest dance event in June. Gay Days Orlando is gearing up to be the hottest event of the year!
